Corel VideoStudio Pro X2 is a good quality video editing suite aimed at home users. The Pro X2 version is at the top end of Corel's home video editing suite range and includes lots of features that allow amateur enthusiasts to create professional looking movies. The interface is easy to learn and several useful behind-the-scenes technical features mean that the software can still run quite smoothly on slower PCs. The application is also on sale at the moment which means you can get it for a more than reasonable price!
Corel VideoStudio Pro X2 is a great application for home video enthusiasts who want to be able to quickly and easily produce good quality movies. Those new to the world of video editing, or who just want to make quick movies, will appreciate the wizards which can quickly detect scene changes and apply effects to movies automatically. The results can sometimes look quite impressive and all it takes is a couple of clicks. More advanced users will find that they have enough control over the editing process to let their creativity run free while still not having to deal with any of the more complex aspects of video production.
One of the great new additions to the most recent version of Corel VideoStudio is the tool which allows you to draw and write freehand onto your videos. The software handles all the technical details of overlaying and blending leaving you free to draw routes of your travels onto a map or add speech bubbles to your photos. As well as this there are hundreds of other included effects and scene transitions that you can use to make your productions look professional and stylish. Even sophisticated picture-in-picture effects are easy to accomplish with a drag and drop interface. As well as special effects there are easy to use tools to improve the colour in your videos to enhance dull looking footage. These can be set to run automatically or you can take more control over how the settings are altered.
The software can handle all the common types of video and image formats allowing you to bring in content from a variety of different sources. It supports end to end HD editing and uses a clever solution to allow you to edit HD movies as smoothly and quickly as standard definition by creating a temporary low resolution copy of the footage. All of your edits and effects are then applied to the original footage when you are ready to burn to disc or create the finished file. Another handy feature is that you can use a wizard to automatically copy footage directly from your camera to a disc at the click of a button.
Finished files can be output in a variety of different formats suitable for whatever purpose you require. High definition output is possible in AVCHD or Blu-Ray formats, while it is also easy to produce a file that will be ideal for use on social networking sites, portable devices or YouTube. Tools are also available which allow you to create interactive menus for your DVDs and stylish title screens.
Corel VideoStudio Pro X2 is an excellent home editing suite. It is especially good for beginner users as the interface is very easy to use and takes you through the workflow of producing a video very simply. The software is definitely aimed at users who want to have fun producing their videos and so at times doesn't feel as serious as some of the other products we have looked at. However, most of the same features are there and you still retain enough control over your production. The application is very reasonably priced and a free trial is available so that you can try before you buy.
