Muvee autoProducer is a simple video editing application that focuses on automatically editing your video rather than providing powerful, detailed edit control. The results of the automatic creations are often surprisingly good and can be tailored to your liking with a few tools that give you some more control. For anyone who wants to be able to accurately edit their movies this isn't the best choice of software, but beginners or those who don't want to spend hours over every edit will appreciate the simplicity.
The user interface for Muvee autoProducer is nicely designed and very easy to use even for absolute beginners. Essentially the process works in the following way. Firstly, you import raw footage from your camcorder, mobile phone or camera to serve as the basis for your movie. This is an easy process and for most people the one touch transfer option should do everything required. At this point you can also add in any still images which will be mixed in with the video in the final edit. Finally, you add some music of your choice and/or a voiceover track, select a template and let the software do its work. The rendering of your movie takes no time at all and the MagicMoments feature will let you select a "thumbs up" or "thumbs down" icon to tell the application whether to keep or remove certain scenes.
The whole process is very easy to run through quickly and at the end some new tools pop up which let you tweak the final movie a little. Clearly the weakness though is the lack of any serious editing tools. While this is fine for beginners, anyone who wants to learn about video editing and improve their skills will be disappointed as there is not much more you can do with the application. There are some tools for enhancing the quality of your video and removing red eye in photos, but again these are automatic and you don't get much control over how they are applied.
Since Muvee autoProducer relies almost solely on its style and templates to edit movies for you, it seems a bit cheeky to include only 8 different styles out of the box. These do look good and are great for showing what the software can do, but don't give you much variety in the final result. If you want more styles new packs are available based on different themes, but in our opinion they are quite expensive and not great value for money.
Muvee autoProducer is a fun application for beginner users and perhaps to introduce children to the world of video editing. However, the price of the style packs make extending the life of the application beyond a few weeks quite an expensive prospect. That said, some good results can be had from the software with very little effort, but you don't get much in the way of control.
